Borussia Dortmund boosted their European hopes with a
2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga Saturday while
Hamburg edged Augsburg 3-2 to increase their survival chances.
Dortmund were rarely threatened by their visitors from Frankfurt and
first half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with a penalty, and
Shinji Kagawa moved them into seventh. That could provide a Europa
League place depending on the outcome of the German Cup.
Juergen Klopp's team are three points behind sixth-placed Augsburg,
who lost out at Hamburg in a five-goal thriller. Pierre-Michel
Lasogga smashed an emphatic winner with 20 minutes remaining to end a
nine-match winless run for the northern club, who move up to 16th
from bottom.
Freiburg fought back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw at
10-man VfB Stuttgart. New coach Michael Frontzeck saw his Hanover
team lose 2-1 to Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1 in Cologne.
Later Saturday league leaders Bayern Munich can take another step
towards their 25th German championship at home to Hertha Berlin.
Second-placed Wolfsburg visit Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.
